When the owner of Vivian's Soul Food was looking to expand his restaurant into a new location, he had heard about us from the Gianna's Beef project we had done in 2018 and approached us about being a key part of the build-out of his new restaurant we were extremely appreciative.
The design incorporated a clean, but custom look with a maple plywood top, covered in a cherry edgebanding. In total, there were 25 tables of various sizes we built for this new restaurant with this custom look. Every table is finished with our GREENGUARD Certified 2-part Polyurethane with exceptional scratch/mar, chemical, and moisture resistance for consistent daily use in this restaurant. The finish is not only healthy, but also durable.
Situated just off of 16th Ave in Cedar Rapids, IA Vivian's Soul food serves up fried chicken, mac n’ cheese and candied yams so good you'd would swear you were down south. Their mission is mission is to bring people of all walks of life and backgrounds together through Soul Food and I'd say they have that perfected!

The food is delicious and the atmosphere is high end and one of our go-to spots, especially for their weekend brunch! When we had the opportunity to provide new booths for the redesign of their restaurant we were excited about it.
The design of these booths incorporated a modern and sophisticated design that was fully custom. The booth was covered in laminate along with custom wrapped bench seats and backs as well as anodized aluminum top dividers. This design took a lot of coordination and to get all of the design elements to seamlessly tie into the new space around the modifications made to the restaurant.

]]>When the customer approached us in a design meeting looking for a way to be able to quickly convert their basement to host family gatherings, we looked at various options for tables that could quickly be set up but ended up with a concept for a folding murphy table. We knew that we needed at least three 8' long tables in order to host as many guests as they were expecting and so we came up with this creative concept to solve this problem.
One of the biggest challenges of this project was building these tables in our shop as well as the cabinets to house them and get them delivered and installed in one day.
We were able to include a couple of fun design features as well as safety features in this project as well. First off, we knew that the customer had grandchildren that visited and used the basement as a play area so when the tables were folded up and the doors were closed, we needed to be able to lock the doors from opening. This prevented the tables from inadvertently being pulled down without adult supervision.
The fun feature we added was to the back panel of the cabinet where we included a chalkboard wall as well as included a slot to store chalk so that messages and art could be displayed when the tables were folded down.
The materials used for this were walnut tabletops, finished with a dark stain and our standard high-durability finish, as well as reclaimed barnboard for the cabinet that was handpicked to fit with the decor and style of the room. We also used adjustable and folding metal legs with a plywood back wall with chalkboard paint on it.
The customer absolutely loves the concept and the finished product and we're honored to have been chosen for this project. We can't wait to hear about all of the family gatherings around these tables.

]]>Once the slabs arrived, we looked at multiple potential layouts for the table and did a mock-up of what the table would look like and how much epoxy would be needed to complete it.
Once the final layout was determined, we built the form and put the slabs into it and poured the epoxy into the center. The color included an opaque green color with a small amount of yellow to get the bright green color that matched the branding of the company.
After the epoxy was cured, we flattened and sanded the table down and sprayed on a durable 2-part finish to give it a long-lasting durability.
Our goal with this project was to utilize a natural wood with a unique texture with a custom steel base to pull together their new corporate branding and colors. This tabled ended up being 36" x 14' long with the ability to seat 14 people at each table and included a shelf for a computer as well as a slide-out keyboard panel for the perfect showcase conference table to meet with potential new customers and existing ones in a professional setting.

]]>When the owner of Gianna's Beef, Adam approached us about being a key part of the build-out of his new restaurant we were extremely appreciative. We'd known Adam for over 5 years and knew that the unexpected passing of his daughter Gianna and his dream of owning his own restaurant would take shape one day. To be a part of the journey with him through this project was a great experience for all who were involved.
The design incorporated a modern feel with lots of raw steel framing and exposed edge birch plywood and solid birch framing. This took a lot of coordination and design to get all of the design elements to seamlessly tie into the original surroundings of this historic building.
Situated in downtown Cedar Rapids, IA Gianna's Italian Beef serves up Hot Italian Beef & Grilled Chicken Sandwiches, Vienna Beef Hot Dogs, Chopped Salads, Shoestring Fries & Italian Ice! It is quickly becoming one of the go-to fast casual dining spots in the city, mainly due to the design and layout which help create a community atmosphere.
One of the key elements of the design was incorporating a community table as the focal point where large groups of people can sit across from each other on this 18' long table and enjoy a meal and conversation with friends or complete strangers. With large floor to ceiling windows and tons of natural light, this is a great spot for a quick bite to eat.
Another fun element to this was the incorporation of the color purple, which was Gianna's favorite. You can see this tasefully incorporated into the "Gianna" booth as well as accents around the restaurant. Whether you're in the area or just passing through, be sure to stop by and have a bite to eat at Gianna's, you won't regret it!

]]>Our goal with this project was to utilize a natural wood with a unique texture with steel bases to pull together their historic roots with today's technology. After reviewing different wood options, we landed on Spalted Maple which gave us a unique spalting in each of the tables that provided us a very unique and one-of-a-kind finishes.
We worked through the design process of the metal bases to incorporate a metal strip of tubing in the center of the tables to tie the base into the top for a seamless look. Our favorite part of the whole project was revealing the end grain of the table on the ends to see what amazing textures nature created for us to enjoy!
These tables ended up being 36" x 14' long with the ability to seat 14 people at each table, the perfect size for their break area for their employees to grab a seat and enjoy their lunch.
